Social life and economy are still severely restricted under the influence of Corona. However, this does not stop the criminal energy of hackers. On the contrary, whether fake Internet pages for Corona emergency aid or fake Corona apps, cyber criminals are taking unrestrained advantage of the pandemic.

The company Check Point Research specifically warns against malware in apps that pretend to be corona apps. Under names such as "coronavirus", "covid19" or "corona-apps" they pretend to provide relevant information about the virus. In reality, however, they access personal data and passwords via the malware and hack into online banking.

30,000 new domains, related to covid-19, were registered by Check Point Research in a two-week survey, of which 0.4 percent were found to be malicious and 9 percent suspicious. The software provider rated the probability of malware on websites on the subject of corona as twice as high as on websites on other subjects.

For this reason, apps from unknown sources should preferably not be opened in the first place. However, apps from official app stores should also be checked carefully before downloading.
